A Few Tips to Consider When Buying a Hearing Aid

When you're in the market for a new hearing aid, wading through all of the information and resources can be a challenge. There are a few key points, though, that you can use to help guide your decision making process as prepare to buy an aid.

Overall Performance

First and foremost, you want to find a hearing aid that performs at a high level of success in amplifying and clarifying sound. Digital sound processing is a relatively new feature that offers directional amplification, and has the ability to distinguish different types of sounds. What that means for the wearer is that background noises will stay in the background, voices will be amplified, and the most accurately reproduced sound possible will be heard.

Background Noise Cancellation

The best hearing aids on the market are ones that successfully reduce the distraction of background noise. Individuals who are suffering from mild to moderate hearing loss very often complain that background noise makes hearing general conversations much more difficult. New hearing aids that are on the market are designed to cancel out ambient noise and clarify other sounds.

Cosmetic Appearance

Aids come in all shapes and sizes, but the best hearing aid for one person isn't necessarily going to the best for another's lifestyle. Cosmetic appearance plays a big role in overall satisfaction of those who wear hearing aids.

Cost & Value

The reality is that cost is a major factor in the type and style of hearing aid that you choose. Many name brand hearing devices can cost $3,000 or more for the device itself, with additional costs added on by the multiple doctor's visits often required to obtain the hearing aid. More affordable alternatives are available for much less, and offer the best value and high return on investment.

Shopping For Acoustic Guitars

Guitars are played expansively in all occasions, and are considered to be one of the ancient forms of music instrument. People learn it for hobby, interest, or various other reasons. Among the classical guitars, acoustic guitars are believed to be the contemporary lineage of the well known guitars.

Acoustic guitars do not need the support of electricity. Acoustic guitars produce lucid and loud sound. Recently, many forms of guitars have flooded the music market, yet acoustic guitars are more prominent as they are the successors of prevailing guitars. Customarily, all non electric guitars are recognized as acoustic guitars. Acoustic guitars promote the students in focusing on the basics of playing a proper sound without any sort of distractions from knobs or amplifiers that are invariably seen on electric guitars and can be a reason for distraction to beginners. Beginners can practice it anywhere as it is portable.

Acoustic guitars are produced using many types of materials right from environmental wood to plastic. People purchasing acoustic guitars give importance in understanding the materials used in the instrument. Acoustic guitars made of solid wood sides, tops and back are the priciest ones. Generally, guitars are made from rosewood or mahogany, the exclusive woods. The average variety guitars are made as a combination of solid tops with laminated sides or backs, and the lower side is made of laminated wood. Exclusive attention is given to the type of wood used and its construction. Guitar made of dried wood is considered to be the best guitar due to the nonexistence of moisture that can destroy the entire guitar in a short time.

Acoustic guitars are available in many varieties made of different species of woods. Acquiring an acoustic guitar involves checking every individual part of the guitar like the neck, the bridge, the body as well as the end blocks. It is very essential to have a perfect bridge unit as the part of the bridge that touches the strings produce vibrations transmitting improved sound quality. Bridges made of plastic are not worth buying as they fail to produce pleasing sound.

Rock band artists, folk groups, country music, and many other prominent guitarists use acoustic guitars as it produces astonishing sounds naturally. Amongst guitars the Dreadnought guitar is preferred by guitarists as it can be easily played with fingers. Technological developments and techniques have enhanced the quality and reliability of these instruments leading to more demand and availability at affordable prices.

I Didn't Hear You, Can You Repeat That

Pardon? Say what? Come again? Say that again? Eh? Can you repeat that? Sorry? You what? Aye? I missed that? Hmm?

It doesn't matter how you say it, they all mean the same thing: you didn't hear what was just said.

I've been thinking recently about how often I don't hear what someone has said and how often I ask them to repeat themselves. In some situations I will ask repeatedly, no matter how many time it takes, until I hear. In others, I will only ask once or twice. And, in others, I will not ask at all.

With family and close friends I am happy to ask repeatedly; most, if not all, of them know I am partially deaf and they are usually happy to repeat themselves until the cows come home. Sometimes, and I guess it depends on their mood, they don't want to repeat themselves - this annoys me quite a bit, if what they just said is not worth repeating why was it worth saying in the first place?

The people I really struggle with are the quietly and soft spoken ones. Some people just refuse to speak up and it will not matter how many times I ask them to repeat it, I will never hear them properly! I find myself avoiding speaking to people who I know speak really quietly, just to avoid the hassle - I wish I didn't do this because I'm sure it looks rude to them and I'm no doubt missing out on some good conversation. The obvious answer here is to tell them that I have trouble hearing what they say; I really don't feel comfortable doing that and I can't remember a time when I ever have done. I really should make the effort to start in future.

In the opening paragraph I said that in some cases I will never ask the person to repeat themselves. I used to do this a lot - I used to be too embarrassed about my hearing loss, I tried to hide it as much as possible - I would either try and guess what they said based on the odd word I'd heard or the context of the conversation or simply nod, laugh or give a short answer like "yes" or "no". I realised some years ago that this was a stupid thing to do, I cringe at the amount of times I must have given stupid and meaningless answers. I'm sure a lot of people do this exact thing all the time, it's an easy way out.

It's rarely uncomfortable to ask someone to repeat themselves in a one-to-one conversation; a group conversation can, on the other hand, be very difficult. It is a good idea to position yourself somewhere where you will have the best chance of hearing; this is something you can do when you know that one person in the group is going to be doing most of the talking: the teacher at school/college, someone giving a presentation to a group, and so on. It's not so easy when you don't have a single person to concentrate on: when you are chatting with friends or in an office meeting, it is particularly difficult if there is also background noise such as background chatter or office air-conditioning. It is too easy to loose the conversation when you are having to listen for voices coming from all directions.

Does Hypnosis Work?

Working as a Hypnotherapist is very rewarding as you get the privilege of working with people that want to achieve amazing success in their lives. In fact there is never really a day that I get out of bed and think ‘oh no – another boring day at work’ as each and every day brings many more new clients and many more new challenges that always keeps me on my toes! Many people also find my job fascinating and I am never short of anything to say when I am with friends or meeting new people as that age old question always rises about what I do! Actually someone asked it me just last night – ‘That hypnosis thing? Does it really work?’ I always laugh at this point and say ‘of course not, don’t be so ridiculous!’

Of course I am having a little joke with them in my reply. It still amazes me that people still don’t actually believe that Hypnosis can work. Are you a sceptic? Are you one of these people that still believes that it sounds ‘too good to be true’? Well if you are then it might be time that you woke up and smelt the coffee as you just might be missing out on something that you really need to give you the results that you want in your life. Listen to this – Hypnosis has been scientifically proven to both exist and work! Don’t believe me? Google it and you will find loads of research and evidence to suggest that Hypnosis doesn’t belong in the land of fairytales and magic shows, but is actually a viable option to get you the life that you want and to help you to attain the things that you want to have.

One question I always ask my clients is ‘what would you achieve if nothing was impossible?’ The reason that I ask this is because as we grow into adulthood we stop using our ability to set high ambitions like we did as kids and we start to create limitations and reasons why we cant achieve certain things. We actually begin to decide whether something is impossible or not – that’s right we actually set the limit on what is impossible!

As I said – Hypnosis is a viable option to achieve your goals. So I want to ask you the question - what would you achieve if nothing was impossible? Would you quit smoking, lose weight, get more confidence, make more money, improve your relationship or deal with that stress? These are all things that people regularly use Hypnosis for – actually, I worked with clients on all of these issues just in the past week.

The bottom line: Hypnosis works! Isn’t it time that you started to find out more information about how you can use it to improve your own life? You owe it to yourself!

How To Get The Most From Online Psychic Readings

Getting online psychic readings can open a person up to a world of frauds and those looking to only get money. It can be hard for a person to determine who is real and who is not. It helps to be armed with some important information before a person ever starts looking for a psychic reader.

There are generally two different types of psychic readers online. There are those who work for a company and those who have a private practice. Whether a person works for a company or for themselves is not an indication of if they are real or not. Sometimes a whole company can be a fake and sometimes individuals can be a fake. It goes either way. However, it helps to know if they are with a company or not. Sometimes companies offer a better chance of getting a refund then an individual. Sometimes individuals are more flexible. There are pros and cons to each.

When looking at companies it is important to see what type of testing procedures they have in their hiring process. If the company does not test their readers before hiring them then it is best to stir clear of them. Additionally, it helps to see what their refund policy is and if they keep records of the readings. Many online psychic readings are done in chat rooms or through email. If the reading is on record that can help when trying to get a refund.

With individuals it is smart to ask for references. They should be able to provide at least two happy clients for you to contact. Also check about what will happen if you are not satisfied.

As mentioned, most online psychic readings are done through chat rooms or email. In a chat room situation the client gets to talk with the reader as the reading is happening. It is like being face to face with the reader in some aspects. Chat room readings are nice because of the interaction. The client can ask questions and get clarification, if needed. Email readings can also be nice. Usually the reader will allow for follow up question, if needed, so the client can get clarification. Email readings are great for complex situations because the reader has time to work on the reading and isn’t pressured into giving immediate answers.

There are endless options in online psychic readings. There are many companies who have psychic readers online 24 hours a day. If a person wants an online psychic reading they will have no trouble finding a place to get one. However, as mentioned it is also easy to get scammed. Some of the signs of a scam include, readers who give vague answers to questions, no refund policy, no management contact information, a business that is fairly new with no references and pricing that is higher than the average.

Online psychic readings are usually much cheaper than phone readings. Online readings are usually booked according to a set amount of time. For email readings the readings are priced according to the question type or the length of the reading. In general, a person can expect to pay between $60 and $100 for a half hour online chat room readings and from $20 and up for an email reading.

Online psychic readings give a person the freedom to get a psychic reading whenever they want. They can also research the reader better than they can with a phone reading. Many times a person will find that online psychic readings offer a much better quality, too, than phone readings. For anyone looking to get a psychic reading, online readings are a great choice.

Supporter of Gregory Reyes on his Court room Trial

I am writing in support of Greg Reyes to urge leniency in your sentencing. With all deference, he has suffered enough.

I am a corporate securities lawyer and have practiced law for 33 years since graduating from UCLA School of Law in 1974. I was (he first woman partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati where I worked for 21 years, leaving in 2001. (I am not writing this letter on behalf of Wilson Sonsini. I am writing on behalf of Greg.) I am presently Executive Vice President, International Strategy & General Counsel at Obopay, a start-up company in the Bay Area which provides a mobile payments service. I have worked in the Silicon Valley for all of my career. While at Wilson Sonsini, I represented many companies, from start-ups to Fortune 100, including Sun Microsystems, LSI Logic, Coherent, VA Linux and many others. I have worked with hundreds of CEOs and executives of all types.

I represented Greg's father for approximately 21 years and got to know Greg during that period. In approximately 1994 (I can't remember the exact dates), Greg asked me to represent Wireless Access of which he was CEO. I worked closely with him from approximately 1994 to 1996 or 1997 and would have continued to work with him when he joined Brocade had I not represented a competitor. Greg was a very talented and effective CEO and worked tirelessly to make the business successful. His team respected him and he was a good leader. He cared a lot about the people who worked for him and they knew it. He lived and breathed the business, consulted with his Board regularly and constructively. He frequently expressed his desire to do what was in the best interests of his employees and shareholders. During the time I worked with him, he always acted ethically; I never saw him cross the line. He listened to advice, engaged in discussion to understand the advice, but he always took the advice given.

While I represented Greg his children were born. There has never been a more loving and caring father. He was so proud of them. He has also always been devoted to Penny and despite these difficult last few years, has provided strength and support to his family. This experience has humbled him greatly and nearly broken his spirit I think he has made it through because his family, especially his children, needs him to be strong.

I would like to relate a story about Greg which I believe reflects accurately Greg's character. In 1995 my son, Connor, was in 5th grade and needed to do a school project m which he interviewed someone, wrote an essay and then gave a speech in class about what he had learned. Greg agreed to be the interviewee. He spent an entire afternoon with Connor teaching him about wireless paging technology, dug up information for Connor to help him with his report, had his executives describe the technology and gave Connor a pager to bring to class. During Connor's presentation Connor sent Greg a page and Greg paged him back. The class (and teacher) loved it The pager was a huge hit (remember that this was before cell phones were ubiquitous) The experience made a huge impression on Connor and for many years after that Connor told everyone that he wanted to be a CEO like Greg Reyes. This was one of those simple experiences where someone takes time to help a kid that changes the kid's life. I will always be grateful to Greg for taking time out of his busy schedule to help my 12 year old son. The truth is, I think Greg loved doing it. He loves kids and enjoys helping them.

I have known Greg well for many years. While the jury may have found him guilty, I believe Greg believed that he was acting in the best interests of the company He is hard driving CEO who wants to succeed but I can't believe that he would intentionally break the law. Greg has already been punished severely and he faces yet more legal difficulties. I urge you to be lenient.

The Basics Of Building Your Own Greenhouse

Building a greenhouse is easier than you may think. You can choose different designs and sizes that you would like to build. A greenhouse will give you comfort whenever you visit your plants, vegetables, flowers, or orchids. It also provides the needed sunlight and humidity for these plants. You may relax and enjoy it every time you visit this place where you have exerted all your effort of building such a wondrous place.

You may save more money if you decide to build a small greenhouse. There are supplies and materials that you can use which should be just enough according to your own prepared budget. If there is enough space that can accommodate a larger greenhouse, do it because you may want to develop more plants and vegetables.

If you really desire to build a greenhouse where you can develop and propagate more plants, you should consider the different factors that would be necessary on the type of greenhouses you would like to build. Here are some tips and factors you should consider in building your own greenhouse.

1. You may consider using salvaged materials if you intend to make a larger greenhouse. You may use these materials in designing and planning for a low cost budget greenhouse. This will also help you minimize the expense of the other supplies and materials needed.

2. You should also determine the climate of the place where you live. An insulated greenhouse should be appropriate for cold climate areas. This will help you provide the needed warmth and heat for your plants. For warm places, a greenhouse that has a shade control would be advisable.

3. You also needs to make sure that your greenhouse will be designed with proper air circulation spaces, ventilation, pest control soil, heaters for winter season, and humidity control devices. You should create an environment that is appropriate for the types of plants that will grow in your greenhouse.

4. The location of the greenhouse should be built where there is enough sunlight. If you choose a solar greenhouse for vegetables and exotic fruit bearing plants it is best if the greenhouse is situated on the east-west part of where you live because facing it this way it is more exposed to sunlight.

5. It is also important to consider the covering of the greenhouse. The most advisable shades are the glass made coverings and fiberglass which might not fit in your budget. But just know that they provide more durability and they do not deteriorate quickly compared to plastic coverings. A greenhouse covered with glass or fiberglass allows more humidity and warmth.

6. You have the option to choose what kind of foundation you would like to use. The foundations can be concrete for a more secured greenhouse. Others prefer the less expensive lightweight foundation where they use improvised materials such as railroad ties, which they can easily attach to the ground. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend on the structure of the greenhouse.

7. You may also consider building a greenhouse that will maximize its full potential. You may want to add benches or materials that will be used for your comfort every time you want to relax in the greenhouse. You may also want to add many accessories to the place like automatic watering systems, heating systems, ventilation system and other automatic equipment that are effective in maintaining the plants.

8. You should use the “good bugs” for you pest control chemical. They prevent and control the spread of the bad bugs in a greenhouse. If you ever find insects in a plant, you should isolate the plant and if possible place the plant outside the greenhouse so that the insects do not house in the other plants.

9. You should allot a space where you can store fertilizers, potting soil and other tools that are essential in the greenhouse. You should place a tool rack nearer to the potting place so that it would be easier for you to transfer the soil from the pot of the plants. You should also place buckets and tool holders to accommodate the other equipment when they are not in use.

You can develop and grow all sorts of plants with a versatile greenhouse. You may also want to reproduce the grown plants to fill the greenhouse with a variety of plants. Putting up a greenhouse will be more enjoyable if it done with the help of the family and friends. So get them involved too.

Have fun.

Common Hearing Aid Myths

MYTH: Hearing aids will cure hearing loss or restore a hearing impaired individual's hearing to normal.

TRUTH: No hearing aid will ever allow a hearing impaired individual to have normal hearing. A hearing aid just cannot provide what the ear and its intricate working of nerves can. What it can do is amplify sounds so that those wearing them can benefit from and enjoy a wide variety of listening situations. Hearing better helps one to respond appropriately thus improving communication skills.

MYTH: Hearing aids will resolve all of a hearing impaired individual's communication difficulties.

TRUTH: This is impossible, although hearing aids go a long way in helping a hearing impaired individual with their communication skills. Hearing aid wearers often still have problems following conversations when background noise is present or in noisy public settings, thus inhibiting their ability to communicate effectively in those situations.

MYTH: Hearing aids will destroy residual hearing.

TRUTH: Since hearing aids are prescribed according to an individual wearer's specific hearing loss, it would be a rare occurrence for a hearing aid to cause further damage to a person's hearing. There are several things a hearing impaired individual can do to further reduce the possibility of damage caused by hearing aids. They must be well maintained, worn correctly and well fitted.

MYTH: Smaller hearing aids have better technology.

TRUTH: Both larger hearing aids and smaller ones are equipped with cutting edge technology. The two most common types of hearing aids are behind the ear (BTE) and completely in the canal (CIC) hearing aids. Whether or not an individual will be able to wear a hearing aid that is nearly invisible to a casual observer, depends on the type of hearing impairment they have. The hearing aid that is most appropriate for one person's degree of impairment or listening needs, may not necessarily be best suited to another person.

MYTH: Hearing aids are not absolutely necessary for relatively minor hearing losses.

TRUTH: It is not advisable to put off obtaining hearing aids until hearing loss becomes a bigger problem. Over time the risk of permanent sound distortion increases. In this case, even when hearing aids amplify the volume of the spoken word it can still sound garbled.

MYTH: Hearing aids will not be effective for some types of hearing losses.

TRUTH: Generations ago people with certain types of hearing losses, such as high frequency, were told there was little or no help out there for them. With advances in hearing aid technology this is no longer true. Hearing aids are now effective for at least 95 % of hearing impaired individuals.

MYTH: Babies can't be fitted with hearing aids.

TRUTH: Actually infants as young as a month old can be fitted with hearing aids. With the increase in hearing tests for at risk newborns, hearing impairments are being detected earlier then ever and the world of hearing aid research and technology is doing its best to keep pace.

MYTH: It doesn't matter where hearing aids are purchased.

TRUTH: While buying hearing aids through mail order or off the internet may be less expensive, it is not necessarily advisable. By purchasing through these venues, a hearing aid consumer may be giving up the quality of care they will get by working with an audiologist. This includes things such as a qualified hearing evaluation, professional recommendations as to the most appropriate type of hearing aid, expert instruction regarding proper hearing aid usage, follow up care, etc.

Personal Injury

Personal Injury. Law suits for personal injury are filed by people injured by the irresponsible act of another. The injuries, either physical or emotional, can occur from different methods or varieties of conduct. The most frequent classes of harm include slip and falls, auto accidents, intentional attacks (assaults), physician or hospital malpractice, and product liability. Commonly, the goal of a personal injury claim is to ascertain responsibility and force the harming party to compensate the injured claimant for the damages substained. If you or a loved one has been injured by the careless actions of another, contact The Law Offices of Samuel W. Bearman in Pensacola, Florida, right away to learn how your rights are preserved and protected.

Damages. Personal injury attorneys help ensure their clients get the reimbursement to which they are entitled by law. Some of the things for which injured parties are lawfully due damages include lost wages, medical expenditures – past and future, money for both physical and emotional pain and suffering, and damages for physical disfigurement. On occasion, a close relatives of the injured person, such as his or her spouse, maybe eligible for damages, as well. These awards to relatives are often known as loss of consortium damages, which is meant to reimburse the family for the loss of the injured or deceased individual's services and companionship.

Other damages that may be granted, based on the state laws and regulations wherever the legal action is introduced and the details of the unique case, include enjoyment damages, which are granted to compensate the claimant for the deprivation of enjoyment of activities that she or he once took part in in but can no longer do so as a end result of the traumas suffered. Punitive damages may be granted for the defendant’s acts if they were especially egregious and it is decided that the defendant should be disciplined by having to pay an amount of money over the plaintiff’s specific damages. Punitive damage awards act to prevent others from partaking in comparable harmful conduct.

Legal Causation. Not each and every injured individual is entitled to damages for the personal injury he or she receives. Aside from the harm, the claimant will have to also prove, through convincing and appropriate facts, that the defendant is lawfully accountable for his or her injuries. The plaintiff is to provide evidence of causation both in terms of authentic causation and proximate (legal) causation. Actual causation is decided by actual cause and effect. Legal causation is proven by the the details and circumstances of the case.

In certain injury cases, legal causation might be proven if the claimant exhibits that the defendant acted deliberately. This means that the person purposely or actively harmed the plaintiff or recognized that his or her conduct produced a significant likelihood that damage would result.

Negligence and Strict Liability. There are additional injury claims which usually are dependent on a looser notion of fault called negligence. Under this principle, a person is held responsible for the outcomes of his action, or omission, when an ordinary person in the same situation should anticipate that the conduct would likely create an unreasonable threat of damage to others. Still other kinds of personal claims are established on stringent liability, a no-fault system under which liability can be founded irrespective of the flawed acts of the parties, including the wounded. Strict liability often is applicable in products liability cases, as when a company or vendor puts a substandard product or service into the hands of individuals who are then harmed by the product.

Defenses to Personal Injury Claims. In specific fact situations, another's conduct, while in question, may not necessarily be “actionable.” If, for example, the injured purposefully and willfully chose to encounter a recognized risk to safety, then he or she has assumed the possibility of injury and therefore the defendant is not held liable. The presumption of the risk theory may apply, for instance, in a engaged in a friendly sport of tackle football in which another participant broke his leg; in such a situation, the plaintiff most probably would be powerless to recover for his wounds due to the fact he recognized the dangers inherent in the activity and voluntarily chose to face them.

Possible defenses to personal injury suits consist of:

Statute of limitations. Statutes of limitations are laws and regulations establishing the time period within which the suit must commence.
Sovereign immunity. Sovereign immunity safeguards certain government authorities from civil legal responsibility for their official acts.
Intentional misuse. Injuries caused by a claimant's improper use of a product produces a defense to legal responsibility in a products liability situation
Contributory or comparative negligence. Contributory or comparative negligence is wherever the one’s own conduct triggered or contributed to his or her injuries

A personal injury lawyer can clarify these issues and decide whether they apply to a specific case.
Personal injury claims often demand a lawyer’s knowledge and evaluation of all the details and circumstances to ascertain the defendant's legal liability for injuries caused. A personal injury attorney at The Law Offices of Samuel W. Bearman in Pensacola, Florida will evaluate the specifics of your case and ascertain merit and validity of your claim, when you must act to safeguard your rights, the damages availble, and whether you may be eligible to initial financial benefits even before resolution or your claim. Furthermore, in many personal injury cases, you will owe absolutely no legal expenses until the accused pays the damage award.

List Building: Is Your Email Within The Law?

It's been almost three and a half years since the U. S. CAN-SPAM act went into effect, and though it didn't help to stem the flow of spam into our inboxes every day, you still have to follow the law.

"I'm just a one-person operation," you may be thinking. But even so, even if you're just starting out with list building, you have to remember that your'e still liable. One spam complaint could shut you down or worse. Though you're probably protected if you use an online autoresponder service, if you're handling mail on your own, there are some things you need to be aware of.

Here are some important parts of the law:

* No false or misleading email headers. The "To" and "From" lines must be accurate, and you must provide accurate routing information. That should include the location of your domain and your proper email address, and it must identify the person sending the email.

* No misleading subject lines. For instance, you can't write to people saying the message is from their doctor when you're trying to sell them Viagra. It happens all the time. Those messages are illegal.

* People must be given a way to opt out of the list, and provide a return email address. When someone does opt out, you have to honor their request.

Whatever opt out method you choose, it must be active for 30 days, at least. You only have 10 business days to get people who have requested to be removed off the list.

* You have to identify your message as an advertisement and include your snail mail address, too.

Those are the general rules. But there are a couple of other things to consider. Never, ever buy lists of email addresses. Harvesting of addresses is also illegal, so don't do it. Set up a proper list building page that sends your subscribers' names and email addresses to an autoresponder that automatically confirms subscriptions. This "double opt-in" process is just safer. Nothing in the law says you have to do this, but it just makes things safer.

Always include a link in your email where people can opt out, and show that's what it's for. Usually, when you use an online autoresponder service, this is handled for you. Just be sure. And if you're using your own software, be sure you're in compliance. If you're not and you're accused of spamming, you could receive an $11,000 fine and/or be sent to prison. Is it worth it?

Definitely not.

Installing stairlifts

Installing a stairlift into the home is a complex and skilled task and should only be tackled by a trained professional who will ensure a correct fit and user safety.

A stairlift basically consists of two elements;

1) The Track -Straight or Curved rail leading up the stairs.
2) The Powered Chair - Comprising of a seat, footrest, armrests and control unit mounted on the track.

Prior to instillation the majority of stair lift companies will complete a survey to evaluate the environment that the stairlift will be fitted prior to confirming the final quotation.

As part of this survey the engineer will assess the condition of the stairs as the track or rail will be secured to it and so will be subject to the weight of stairlift and the user.

If the stairs are sound the first stage of an installation is to lay the track on the side of the stairs which offers the best access and user experience (normally discussed with customer during the site survey). A track is normally fixed to the stairs by using brackets screwed directly into the stair tread (the top of the stair). The track can be supported entirely by brackets or rest on the stairs themselves depending on the make and model. A track is normally supplied by the manufacture in smaller sections which are connected by the engineer to complete the installation.

When the track has been successfully installed the motor is generally installed next and the wiring work is completed.

Finally the seat is simply attached to the track and the motor and the stairlift will be ready for testing by the engineer.

A curved stairlift causes a more intensive installation as the track is required to follow the curves of the wall. Generally curved stairlifts are considerably more expensive to purchase due to increased installation time and more complex engineering required within the product.

A standard straight stairlift can normally be fitted in 1-2 hours depending on specification.
